On the first successful hit (using a normal weapon attack), Hail of Thorns forces the targets within 5′ to make a Dexterity save against the spellcaster’s spell DC or else take full damage (half damage on a miss). The spell DC for the character’s spells is calculating similarly, but separately form the character’s spell attack bonus.
The next thing we wondered was; how does hail of thorns work DND 5e?
In: Hail of Thorns. The next time you hit a creature with a ranged weapon attack before the spell ends, this spell creates a rain of thorns that sprouts from your ranged weapon or ammunition. In addition to the normal effect of the attack, the target of the attack and each creature within 5 feet of it must make a Dexterity saving throw.
Another frequently asked inquiry is “How do you handle hail of the thorns and sneak attacks?”.
The answer was one weapon damage, two sneak attacks, and three hail of the thorns. Each one can be handled independently. You can roll extra dice if you get a critical hit from your ranged attack. If you have a sneak attack (see rules to learn when a sneak attack is allowed), you can also roll double for a sneak attack. Normal damage for the hail of the thorns.
Since Hail of Thorns has a duration of 1 minute, I’d say that as long as you are concentrating it will still work. The word “next” is the problem. As a DM I’d probably rule that the “next ranged attack” refers to the type of attack and that specific type would continue until the spell ends.
How does the rain of thorns spell work?

Does hail hurt?
Hail can hurt you, can dent your vehicle, crack windshields, damage siding and roofs. If hail falls to where it covers the ground, that can lead to roads being icy and slick, even in the middle of summer. Hail can also lead to large agriculture losses.
We should dig in. for a hailstorm to be considered “severe,” it must be at least one inch, or larger, and falling at a consistent rate. Large and small hail can cause significant damage to vehicles, and impact the integrity of a vehicle. One of the best ways to determine if hail damage is likely to occur is to consider a few factors.
Does hail damage affect car paint?
The most common type of hail damage (which is cosmetic damage with no paint issues) usually consists of small, round dents on the metal panels of your vehicle. This damage doesn’t impact your paint or finish. In most cases, cosmetic damage will only impact the surface of your vehicle.
I can dig in! although hail that is smaller than an inch can damage your vehicle if it is wind-driven or very, very dense, it is unlikely that hail smaller than an inch will damage your vehicle. But when it gets to the size of an inch or larger, the chance of it damaging your vehicle is very high.
